The air we breath is normally 21-percent oxygen. During hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment, you will breath 100-percent pure oxygen. The increased oxygen will increase the oxygen your blood carries to body tissues, and this abundance of oxygen in your tissues enhances the repair of tissue damage.

What is HBO Treatment?

Oxygen is essential to heal bodily tissues, whether skin, muscle or bone. In normal cases, breathing--combined with a healthy network of veins and arteries--provides enough oxygen for body tissues to heal.

However, sometimes hyperbaric oxygen treatment is necessary to substantially increase oxygen flow within tissues in order to improve the healing process. When administered by properly trained professionals, hyperbaric oxygen is extremely safe and effective adjunctive therapy for a variety of ailments.

Research suggests that HBO therapy speeds and enhances the body’s natural ability to heal itself. The added blood oxygen concentration could be up to 20 times greater than normal and stimulates different bodily functions, allowing miracle of healing to begin.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is utilized for treating a variety of conditions: stroke, traumatic brain injury and autism, as well as other conditions.

Patients undergoing hyperbaric treatment are placed in an HBO chamber where 100% oxygen is circulated. The oxygen is pressurized so that air pressure may be 2-3 times greater than normal. This allows the lungs and skin to absorb more concentrated oxygen in a shorter period of time.

The hyperbaric chamber pressure is measured in feet of seawater or atmospheres; for example 66 feet of seawater or three atmospheres. If you have ever dived underwater in a pool or scuba dived you will understand what hyperbaric chamber pressure feels like.

Since oxygen is a gas, it has certain rules that apply to its physical properties. When oxygen is at sea level, the body will saturate the hemoglobin and the blood plasma with only so much. Typically, the hemoglobin is saturated to 97% with very little saturation in the blood plasma. With hyperbaric oxygen (or when oxygen is delivered in a pressurized environment) the oxygen is dissolved in the plasma at 10-15 times more than normal and the hemoglobin to 100% while breathing normally in the pressure chamber. This oxygen saturation aids the healing process.
